Crawfish Promotion and Research Board Referendum

LOUISIANA – Statewide voting to renew the assessments on crawfish sacks and bait is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, November 10. To be eligible to vote, crawfish producers (farmers and fishermen) must show proof that, in the last 12 months, they bought at least 100 pounds of bait or 100 crawfish sacks. Voting is to take place at LSU AgCenter parish Extension offices located statewide in each parish.

This Referendum was authorized by the Louisiana Legislature with Act 679 (1983) and Acts 330 and 492 (1985). It was created to determine whether Louisiana crawfish producers favor or oppose an assessment of one-quarter of one cent (1/4 cent) per pound on all artificial crawfish bait sold within Louisiana and an assessment of one cent (1 cent) for each sack holding less than 25 pounds of crawfish and two cents (2 cents) for each sack holding 25 pounds or more.
