The long awaited proposed rule for inspection of catfish and catfish products was published today in the Federal Register. This proposed rule with a request for public review and 120-day comment period begins a public rulemaking process administered by the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) under new authority for this catfish inspection program granted in the Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008 (P.L. 110-246, “2008 farm bill”). See the link below for access to the Federal Register notice. The administration of the catfish inspection program is now under the FSIS Office of Field Operations and not a separate Office of Catfish Inspection Program.
